Lesson 34: The Country Paths (Color Drawing)

Note: Remember to draw margins around your drawings as described in Lesson 33.

Children study the top image and complete the following drill work:

  1. Black. Paint graded wash A entirely with black.
  2. Black. Paint B by placing a graded wash similar to A over the whole, and into this wash add the details.
  3. Blue and Orange. Paint B by placing a graded wash of blue over the whole and over this a similar wash of orange, letting the orange predominate in the foreground. Into this wash paint the details with blue and orange.
  4. Blue, Brown and Green. Place a graded wash of blue over the whole and into this wash mark the details with brown and green.
  5. Red and Green. Place a graded wash of green over the whole and a similar wash of red over the green. Into this wash mark in the details with green and red.

Children study the bottom image and complete the following drill work:

  1. Black. Paint the graded wash with black.
  2. Black. Taint the landscape entirely with black. First paint the graded wash over all and into this wash mark the details.
  3. Blue and Orange. Place a graded wash of blue over the whole, and to the lower part add a graded wash of orange. Into this wash mark the details with blue and orange.
  4. Blue and Orange. Place a graded wash of orange over the whole and add a graded wash of blue to the lower part. Into this mark the details with both blue and orange.
  5. Yellow and Violet. Place a graded wash of violet over the whole, and a graded wash of yellow over the lower part. Into this mark the details with yellow and violet.
